Great opportunity to see the countryside and have an expert guide for the day. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the Mount St. Helen observatory, clouds hindered our view of the crater but the observatory offered excellent displays and videos. I felt that I had received a good experience. The Ape Cave offered an opportunity for the guest to better appreciate the lava runs that occurred. For this tour, my only advice would be that the footing can be challenging so proper footwear will make your experience more enjoyable. The guide was informative and ensured that the group had the best experience possible.

This was the first tour of our northwest adventure and the one that I was looking forward to the most. The tour included pickup at our downtown hotel and stops at Ape Caves and Johnson Ridge Observatory along with stops for snacks and lunch which were provided for us. Because of the length of the tour due to the distance driven we had the opportunity to learn much from a good tour guide and luckily our guide Asia was wonderfully informative and extremely interesting. She had much to share and I appreciated her enthusiasm. This was a fabulous tour provided by an excellent tour company. I highly recommend this tour!

This was an amazing tour led by an exceptional guide. Our guide took us into the Ape Caves, along beautiful old forest on the mountain and along the scenic paths up to the Johnston Ridge Observatory. She had great knowledge to tell us about the lava formations under ground, the impact of the blast on both sides of the mountain ( very different) and ecological facts about the trees and wildlife. We stopped at some fun places along the way - including a Big Foot statue and places where houses were buried by the mudslides and only the 2nd floor of the house is still visible. We had plenty of time at the Observatory to watch the films, see the displays, and hike a bit. Lunch was fabulous and afternoon snacks and hot tea or coffee was welcomed! This tour group seems to only employ exceptional guides and they do so many extra things for the people on the tour to make it informative, interesting and fun. I highly recommend this tour and this company!

This was the only tour I booked on my 9 day vacation to Oregon and it did not disappoint. There were four of us on the tour, and we lucked out with having Asia as our tour guide. She’s extremely knowledgeable about Oregon and Mt St Helen’s. We had delightful conversations throughout the day. And the Ape Cave was fascinating. The lunch was yummy and they accommodated my last minute vegetarian request. Oh, and Asia helped me fulfill my mission of getting a Sasquatch t-shirt for my nephew. : )

I had a great day. First you go to Ape Cave, then we did a small hike. After the hike we had coffee or tea and baked goods. Then we started to drive to Mr. St. Helen's. We had lunch at one of our stops. The lunch was very good. We had soup and a sandwich. Then we drove to the Visitor Centre at Mt. St. Helen's. It is a long day driving. I learnt a lot about what happened in 1980. It is a long day in the van. My recommendation is when you sit in the van sit near the front. I sat near the back and I had a hard time to hear the guide.

Excellent service with pick up and drop off from my downtown Portland hotel. Several bathroom and snack breaks and a lunch that was more fine dining than picnic! Lots of good conversation with Aaron and fellow tourmates. I highly recommend you use this company as they strive hard to make sure you enjoy your time!

My 13 year old son and I ended up lucking into a tour with our excellent guide Paul and no other travelers. We departed on a cloudy day that threatened rain. Despite the forecast and the rain that did occur, Paul gave us a very well rounded, interesting and fun trip! We loved the walk through the lava tube. Paul was well prepared with headlamps for us. We had several other stops and ended at the Johnston observation deck, while completely fogged in, we enjoyed the films and visitors center. My teen listened to most of the interesting history! Paul was a great guide, I would highly recommend this tour.

We enjoyed the entire trip. First off the tour guide, JORDAN! was just wonderful! He delivered; OVER THE TOP! The day was long but well planned out with picture taking stops, walks, etc. This tour requires walking on uneven surfaces - be sure to have sneakers or hiking shoes. Definitely bring your own flash light (do not rely on your smartphone); you may want a walking stick in the cave. (Understand, this is a review from someone who is not fit; grrrrr but getting there!) When we got to Tale of Two Forests I was thinking about staying back at the van -- thankfully I went on a little hike there - WONDERFUL SIGHTS! Must See! If you are concerned about saving energy - only go a bit inside the cave -- save your energy for the Forest hike and the other stops on Mt St Helens. Again, the tour guide, Jordan, was absolutely wonderful. He is charming, engaging, and he has all the information you are looking for. We were delighted with this trip!

How difficult are the hikes ( easy, moderate, difficult)? I am 68 years old in average physical condition with mild neuropathy in the feet.

On the Mt. St. Helens tour, I remember walking up a very wide, long, somewhat steep, paved road/driveway to get to the observation center/museum. I’d say it’s easy to moderate in difficulty. The observation center has additional, steep walks to get to additional viewing spots, but they are optional.
The Ape Cave is a little more difficult in that the ground is, in places, uneven due to rocks/boulders. You have to step carefully at times to avoid falling and I remember having to climb over rock formations at times. Other parts of the cave are easy to navigate - wide with flat ground. It gets narrow as you approach the end, but not too bad. it’s dark of course, and I found it a little difficult at first learning how to walk and still look down so as to avoid tripping on rocks/boulders - eventually I grew comfortable, though.
