You need permits to hike. We drove hours to be told they sold out of permits to hike the state park. Never heard of such a thing.

Great State Park! My friends and I decided to make the drive one day, and it provided a nice hiking opportunity. The access trail the falls themselves is simple enough, about a half-mile. Crossing the streams can be a bit of challenge if you want to avoid getting wet. Beyond the falls, the trails usually lead to dead ends and thick undergrowth in the summer, overall a nice experience.

We rented the Hills Grove Shelter for a Celebration of Life event for our mother who had passed. This shelter was very private due to a large stand of trees, and had its own private parking area for 30 cars plus 1 handcapped parking space. It had a shared bathroom with visitors who parked in a lower parking area. There were enough picnic tables in this covered open-air pavilion for 125 guests easily. It is wheel chair accessible, as is the bathroom facility. We had 60+ people attending. There is a large playground area down the hill, along with a little stream that runs past it. It is a beautiful location. I would recommend this location for all types of gatherings. The park staff were also wonderful. Dave, in particular, helped us purchase park entrance tickets in advance of the event and helped answer numerous questions. Any guests who wanted could go hiking at the nearby falls or visit the Kind and Queens seat. We brought in Pond View Farms caterers, who are very reasonably priced and provided excellent service in this off-site location. We would also recommend use of their catering service for any event.

We did the king and queen seat hike, linking the blue and white routes. Car park very quiet for 10:30 on a Saturday! Well maintained and well signposted, although it’s a shame that some people feel the need to graffiti on natural landforms. Some slightly challenging inclines but good fun. We also popped in on a local car show as we drove back through Jarretsville - lots of very friendly and chatty people with cool cars. All in all a very pleasant half day out.

Took the white trail loop. Very well maintained and well marked. Kids (14 and 10) were able to do it no problem. It was a nice hike, King and queen seat was the highlight.

Beautiful waterfalls and a nice walk. You can see this part of the park and then go to the other side. There's camping too. If you love nature and pictures. You don't be disappointed.

Beautiful "hike" to the King and Queen's Seat at Rocks State Park.
I say "hike" because the walk from the parking lot is about 1000 feet. Parking in the close lot is limited but we found space.
It is a bit difficult to find from the Park map. Proceed to the interior of the park and up the hill. Otherwise you will end up HIKING up quite some distance and elevation.
The Fall colors were fantastic!
We also drove to Kilgore Falls just about 10 minutes away. Another short hike to the Falls was a fun addition to our day.
There are 2 trails one up and one down when you get to the Falls. The top one is drier and you don't have to cross the stream but the view is less interesting. The bottom part of the loop takes you across the stream. You will get a bit wet but it's fun.

My four (4) grandsons enjoyed walking the short trail to Kilgore Falls and wading in the creek/ waterfalls pool. Afterwards we drove to the Rock Ridge picnic area and enjoyed a fun family picnic. Very few amenities are provided for public usage i.e. public restrooms, drinking fountains, picnic tables - so come prepared to rough it.

Camp Wo-me-to is for cub scouts & 4-H mostly. The conowingo dam has nice camping areas around. It's about 20 min. away. DNR of Harford County will be able to give you better answers.

Is it safe to hike to the queen and king seat with a 5 year old
Collin
La Plata, MD29 aportes
I see no reason why not. The hike is not technical and the trails are easy. There were several children and dogs there. Of course, be careful around the edges so they don't fall, but it should be no problem for a 5 year old.
Could a small dog handle the trails at the falls? What about the king and queen seat?
Collin

The dog should be able to handle both. You will probably have to carry it over some of the creeks on the way to the falls depending on how small it is.

Whens the best time to get there so that there is enough parking space? Because from these reviews it seems that there is some parking issues.
Are pets allowed?
