8km loop on an even surface, with some lovely views of the lake. Family friendly and suitable for bikes and dogs. Lovely!

Very nicely equipped area. Lovely walk of 8 km with no obstacles and good signage.
Reaching the Inch Island on foot is a worthwhile walk. Nice nature observation point, probably even better doing migration season.

Several approaches to this wildlife refuge. All offer chances to see Irish wildlife while walking on Inch, including rare black swans, otters at play (depending on tide), even kingfishers. Park and walk and observe - many rewards.

A really beautiful place to visit , unfortunately the weather was not good so our visit was cut short .
Stunning views over Lough Swilly .
We had a chat with the Ranger who was very happy to answer our questions and encouraged us to return which we shall most certainly do .

It was suggested I visit this area by a local. I guess I should have investigate exactly where to go to view waterfowl because I saw very few. I walked along a path with a high levee which impeded my view of the lake. The only exception was a wooden "blind" provided for viewing the lake but too far away to see anything. Bring binoculars and read about the area before you go.

Every time I visit Inch Island, from the U.S., I have to make at least one stop here. It is so peaceful and serene. There is a great walking/running trail. The bird viewing is amazing! One day I counted over 50 swans and even saw a few black swans. There is a great view of Inch Castle, as well. Worth a trip, if you can find it ;)

Brilliant place to see sea wildlife. It is well preserved and open enough to see many bird species. Good parking. Nice walk even if you aren’t interested in birds.

A beautiful place with lots of birds

Inch is an island in Lough Swilly approached by reasonably well signposted small roads off the N13 only a few miles from Derry/Londonderry. Their website has a simple map showing all the hides and gives walking directions (8Km circle, or drive between the car parks if that's too hard for you). You will need an ordinance survey map (Ireland 25000:1 Number 7) to find everything as many of the little roads are not well shown on most satnavs. Once you find it, there's lots to see - from the road you can see the black swans - (which have cygnets right now) and Whooper swans are still there, at least one in breeding plumage. The terns have arrived and you can photograph them from the sluice gates.
One of the car parks at the pumphouse carpark has a porta-toilet; two hides are a short walk from there. As well as the ducks and swans, many small birds such as warblers can be seen, and the odd buzzard flies over. A lovely place to go, and lots to see.

We were taken here by our tour guide it’s must for anyone coming to Donegal. The kids loved it they were able to bring their bikes. It’s scenic safe and just the perfect antidote to busy city life. We’ll be back in a heart beat. Just outstanding !!!!
