My sister and I have just returned from 4 days walking the 62 mile St Cuthbert's Way. The variety of unspoilt scenery through woodland and pastures, alongside rivers and across hills with blooming heather, the peace and solitude and the good August weather made for a great trip. The route is well waymarked and we had OS maps and a guidebook for backup. One of the highlights was walking the pilgrim's route across the sands to Holy Island rather than on the very busy causeway road (information is available online on how to do this safely) then spending a night on the island which takes on a whole different feel when the day visitors have left. We would highly recommend all of it.

Excellent. Overall very well signposted and interesting aspects. This is an excellent walk and not too hard. Good variety of scenery and interest. Would recommend this walk both to inexperienced and experienced walkers.

Over the years we have walked a lot of Britain's long distance foot paths and have used a nuber of firms to organise our treks, but this was the first time with Shepherds Walks - They were OUTSTANDING, the best we have used.

They were helpful and accommodating when we were planning the trip, the information and advice they provided was spot on, the organisation excellent and the standard of accommodation we were booked into along the route was consistently top notch, a step up from what seems to be the norm.

The walk itself is one of the most clearly way marked we have come across , so you don't need to be particularly good at navigation - at least in good weather (which we were lucky enough to get). One of the nice things about the route is the wide variety of scenery; small towns, lowland river valleys, the wilder, hilly sections and then the coast.

All in all, an excellent trip and a big thank you to Shepherds Walks

St Cuthbert’s Way takes you across borders and through centuries of history that have left an indelible imprint on the landscape.

Journeys on foot to holy places were popular in Britain until they were banished by Henry VIII in 1538. Now, in the midst of a global renaissance of pilgrimage, old ways are being re-discovered and St Cuthbert’s Way is a beautiful and intriguing example.

Did this last month self-guided with arrangements by Absolute Escapes. Party of 4 were very pleased with all arrangements. Scenery was spectacular and was able to learn some history. Didn't see another soul until we came into our village for the night. Great maps were supplied and trail was usually well waymarked. View Ranger app was very good when we got off the trail or in an endless bog. We are all in our 70's and had no problem with the terrain in spite of a bit of rain (hurricanes Humberto and Lorenzo)

This was a great walk, the path goes through forest, fields and moor land with very little paved walking. It is well marked, regardless I did get lost a number of times. This is a more mature walk with two other paths that cross it as well as many local walking paths that intersects the way. In most places the paths are clear but it is good to know there are places where there are way marks for other intersecting walks that may cause confusion if not alert. Even-though I walked in July, I did not meet many other walkers while on the walk. Linderisfarne is beautiful end to this walk and quite after the tide comes in as most day visitors leave the island before the tide. I was glad I stayed an extra night there.

This a 62 mile (100 kilometre) long distance walk through fabulous scenery in the Scottish Borders. It follows the journeyings of St Cuthbert and runs from Melrose Abbey to Lindisfarne Priory. I have completed six long distance walks in the UK over past few years. and this is easily the best sign-posted and maintained. It goes through woods and farm land, often by the banks of the River Tweed. Over the Eildon Hills and the high moors of the Cheviot Hills. Abbeys and a castle are passed on the way and for me the high-light was walking bare-footed over the sands and through the shallows on the Pilgrims' Path to Holy Island. A reasonable amount of finess is required and some practice daily walks are to be recommended. There is ample accommodation on the route and we met walkers from the USA and Norway.
If you are a keen walker don't miss this; you will not be disappointed

Did this walk with the help of Macs Adventures, a great map and my daughters phone GPS.
It was harder than I expected, the long slow uphills however the distance was manageable.
I thought the views, the countryside and in our case the weather was perfect. The weather was Australian hot and we even got sunburnt!
The track is well signposted, particularly on the Scottish side and less so on the English side.
The sense of achievement when crossing the pilgrims path to Lindisfarne was highlight for me.
Thankyou to all we met on the path, the conversation and laughter, the silence and the opportunity for quiet thought and reflection.

This was a wonderful experience from start to finish beginning with our stay in Melrose. Each stage of the accommodation selected by Gemini was superb and their organization made it seamless and easy. The walk itself was varied and serene. We often shared the hills only with sheep. It was difficult enough to be rewarding but certainly doable for most levels of fitness. This was special.

Enjoyed strolling in the Abbey grounds. Pleasant staff at the entrance. Don’t forget the museum on the other side of the lane
