Can I ask who you guys have used for Rome, italy tours.. we are on a cruise and they are very expensive.. we are looking for tours on a budget as this cruise has cleaned us out.. . thank you We are docking in Lucca and Pisa Pompeii Nice and Monaco.. I am curious if it is cheaper to hire a cab driver for the day, has anyone done this and if so , what approx costs are we looking at?
For our wine tour in Tuscany we used italyonabudgettours. com I believe the tour was called Grape Escape. it was very reasonable and included a stop in San Gimignano. unfortunately I don't remember the tour we used in Rome as we just walked to the Colloseum and a tour guide approached us there. I believe it was cheaper than what we seen online to book then and there with cash but you take your chances if its too busy or high season they may be booked up. for pompeii we were staying in Sorrento so we took the circumvesuviana train to the ruins. We didn't use a tour guide just grabbed an info booklet and a map and did pompeii on our own time. many would recommend a guide in pompeii which you would purchase after you buy your entry ticket. We didn't feel the need and we just took pictures of anything we wanted to look up afterward. it was nice to operate on our own time here. pompeii gets busy and hot so go as early as you can. We were there at 830 for opening. not all exhibits are open at the same times so check online. also I would recommend having exact cash for the entry fee. I believe it was 13 or 16 Euro. the guy at the ticket counter wouldn't take anything over 20 Euro (I had a 50) so my friend had to pay for me and then he ripped us off our change. He was a douche.
