This castle is not huge but has some very intersting history and it is being gradually restored. Some of the furniture was sold many years ago and the current owners are returning what they can, some of it being donated by current owners. The grounds are not extensive but they are full of beautiful peacocks who are very vocal and love to display their magnificent tail feathers. This castle is well worth a visit.

Fabulous two-night stay at Gwydir Castle. Peter and Judy were delightful hosts, who went out of their way to introduce us to their wonderful, historic and engaging home.

Lovely place that has so much atmosphere. Nice to just wander around and soak up the history. Was raining when we were there but still worth exploring the gardens. Loads of peacocks. Well worth a visit.

The gardens were lovely. It rained on our visit, which was a shame. It would be nice if there were toilets and a small cafe, but maybe they're gearing up to that. There's not a lot to see inside.

Wow! What an unexpected pleasure! We had booked a tour of this house through our cruise ship, Viking Jupiter, but weren't really knowledgable about it. We drove through the beautiful Welsh countryside to this fascinating house in the midst of a 28 year restoration by the owners. Hearing their journey of finding the house and starting the restoration was interesting and inspiring. It's obvious they love their work and it shows in the restoration that has been done. The gardens are lovely and seeing a cedar tree that was planted in 1625 is certainly not something you see every day. Absolutely beautiful and interesting. Thank you, Judy and Peter for opening your lovely home to us.
Suggestion- to help your funding you could sell prints of Peter's drawings of Gwydir!

A thoroughly spooky house with beautiful gardens and peacocks! The owners were friendly and so wanting us to enjoy this beautiful house. So check when it is open as they do have unusual opening hours.

As members of a 24-strong Great Rail Journeys Group my wife and myself visited Gwydir Castle (actually more of a Manor House) this morning.

It is an impressive property and - in addition to the many peacocks/hens and the two resident dogs - we were greeted by the owner Peter Welford on arrival. Not only that but his wife Judy Corbett gave our Group both an excellent introduction and Tour of the property - one that the two of them have spent the last 30 years restorngsine beinbpou were in 1994.

The ‘Castlle’ has indeed been lovingly restored and it is also surrounded by beautiful gardens where the many peacocks/hens (long-standing residents themselves) reside.

All in all, a most enjoyable visit - one that I would strongly recommend other visitors to replicate!

The present owners since 1994 have a phased programe of restoration and conservation. (it had squatters in when they bought the property). The rooms and windows have been repaired or replaced. The parts open to the public show you how it was centuries ago. There are about 30 peackocks in the grounds. Well worth a visit.

Still privately owned and out in the sticks, this castle luckily doesn't seem to get too busy. More of a Manor House than a Castle, you can visit quite a few rooms, although I believe the owners do still live in parts of the castle. The decor is everything from Elizabethan up to 20th century, each room has plenty to see. Supposedly, one of the bedrooms is haunted with documented cases. I didn't experience anything there at all, but one of the rooms upstairs with the early 20th century decor, gave me the distinct feeling that something bad had happened in there in the past, (I have a talent for these things).

The grounds are fairly spacious with a few water features and somewhat friendly Peacocks. Just avoid the chicks or you'll be dealing with Daddy peacock - you've been warned.

Staff - great.

The castle has been used as a location for films and tv. One being a truly DREADFUL Sherlock Holmes film involving dinosaurs. Something that isn't advertised by the castle and I don't blame them!

Definitely give it a visit though.
