Every time we visit Penang, we do not miss to visit St. Anne's Church.
Located in Bukit Mertajam, Penang Malaysia.
- over 100,000 pilgrims reported to visit on it's annual celebration every year
- a priest (Fr. Sorin) was buried at the entrance / main aisle of the church
- St. Anne the mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus
- devotees come here to pray and ask for guidance, blessings, request and forgiveness
- As a historical artifact, the church was built in 1846 and completed in 1888. It is 133 years old.

It’s a vast place. Exceptionally clean. Peaceful. The backdrop of this basilica is a mountain which adds to the beauty of this place. There is a hike up to the original site of the church. The hike up is covered by trees. I would like to visit this place again.

We came here on a Saturday morning. The Way of the Cross up the hill beside St. Anne's Shrine was manageable to climb for a 70-year-old with weak knees :) The whole way up was cool, being covered by shady trees. The minor Basilica was an impressive building. So also the 14 man-sized statues of the fourteen Stations of the Cross, scattered across the big compound.
What's best is St. Anne's Shrine. It's so peaceful, the perfect place to relax and pray.
Would love to come and visit again.

We stayed at St Joachim. It quiet at night. Guest are encourage to stay silence as the center is a place where priest do their study. Nearby to the new church of St. Anne, the old chapel, and the bookstore center. Food you can cater and delivered to the center or just call food delivery.

Good to visit. Just a good walk to the churches and up the hill is refreshing and serene. Just for your info, St Anne’s feast is a 10 day celebration. The feast day is on 26 July annually.

Definitely worth visiting while in Bukit Mertajam. The place is very peaceful and quiet to walk around to take your mind off the thing in life. Would recommend to go in the later day or early morning when it’s not too hot to walk around.

My first time visit. The environment is so cool and breezy despite at noon time of a hot day. The church was well up-kept. Serenity and peaceful is the best descriptions.

Liturgy was well planned, homily was great, good choir & well organised. There is a special aura in this pulgrim church which you feel when you set foot on its holy ground.
