This coast has some of the best beaches and some of the most luxurious hotels on the island. But you are also close to ancient temples and waterfalls and artist areas. Hawaii at its best imho.

We drove northward from Waikoloa along Hwy 19 to junction 250 then took 250 north to the quaint little Hawaiian town of Hawi (great shops here for browsing as well as a coffee/pastry/ice cream shop). If you continue along 270 you will come to Pololu Valley Lookout, a scenic view of the ocean. From Hawi take 250 south to Waimea where you can have delicious burgers at the Parker Ranch Mall (there is a Starbucks there as well). If you do not stop, the entire loop will take about an hour and a half BUT you will definitely want to stop and take pictures. The photographer in you will not allow otherwise.

Our family of 6, ranging in age from 5 to 72, in three kayaks with Walter and Evan from Hawai'ian Kayak and Surf took us to a cove previously described on the Kohala coast, but more than just guiding us to a lovely snorkeling bay, took patient time with our 5 and 8 year olds to explain the currents, the fish they saw, the corals and of course, the girls are in love. This was topped off by chilled fruit cut up on the beach...artfully cut, BTW. It was a special treat that 4 month-old puppy "Whiskey" was aboard Walter's SUP...a surf-dog! Difficult to describe "What sort of Visit" as it owuld be good for any of the choices. All good luck to them and we'll see them again!

We rode in an old truck called a Pinzgauer to get to the ditch. It was fun just riding in this truck. Our guide's name was Beth. We got into kayaks and then floated down the ditch. She" talked story" with us and told the history of the ditch. It was calm and a nature lover's delight. It is a side of Hawaii that is seldom seen or advertised. This is not physically challenging but you will get wet even just from dripping water in the tunnels. You put a little light on your head and turn it on when you enter the tunnels. Her assistant helps you in and out of the kayak, but the water is no more than a few feet deep. Loved the ride, even though it was a little pricier than it used to be. This was our second trip and loved it.

This was one of the highlights of our trip! As soon as we entered, the staff was so accommodating and tried to settle my nerves. They had some free storage so we could leave our keys and things behind. They are very focused on safety and I never once felt like I was in any danger. They had a "lesson" before we began about safety and helped each of us into our harnesses individually. The ride up to the ziplines was fun and the guides kept us engaged in conversation. When we got to the ziplines, they had a "bunny slope" line which is used to teach you how to properly zip and brake. You zip from tree to tree rather than towers, which makes the whole experience feel more exciting. The views are of the forest, which are absolutely beautiful. After climbing over some rope bridges and rappelling down a tree, we all stopped for a light snack before continuing on. The guides were super helpful about getting pictures and videos for us so we could just enjoy the experience. I would absolutely recommend this experience and especially this zipline. Even though I was terrified when I entered, I can't wait to go back and do it again!

Ewokian adventure high in the trees for two hours with expert guides, this is it. Our guides, Anthony and Dave, were terrific and thorough in preparing us for some pretty awesome zipping!
I especially loved the bits of local history that they shared. The forest had been previously cleared by native Hawaiians but you would never have guessed it as the trees were numerous, lush and appeared to grow before our eyes. Proved to be a good complement to our morning Kohala ditch tour

My husband and I were gifted tickets by our neighbor, Wendy, to experience the Kohala Zipline tour. We were excited to try it out and we were told the time from start to finish would be approx. 4 hours. We were greeted by friendly staff and introduced to our guides Ezra and Jessica. Our guides were great in explaining what to do and we were impressed with the safety and care given to each of us. They give you some tidbits of Hawaiiana inbetween the zip lines. Best to wear light, comfortable clothing and walking covered shoes because you have to walk on rope bridges high above the ground. They accommodate you with snacks, too! An experience we thoroughly enjoyed! Two thumbs up!
