We had an incredible time hiking the Inca trail and visiting Machu Picchu with Marilu! She was an incredible guide, showed us many flowers and plants along the way and explained the history of the sites in a very interesting manner. We had a lot of fun and the landscapes were absolutely incredible. Could not recommend the tour more! It’s a life changing experience made even better thanks to our awesome guide!

We just finished a 4 day tour of Cusco Machu Pichu and want to recommend a guide who was outstanding and needs to be in this forum's
recommendations. We had arranged all our trip through a very reputable and expensive travel company, that has an excellent reputation, and
very good people on the ground in Peru. Of course had we known of Renne prior to our trip we could have saved a fair amount of money.
Renee has over 30 years of experience in guiding in Peru, knows the area, the restaurants, and is incredibly knowledgeable about history, flora, geology guided us in Machupichu the short Inca trail, and several other epic sites near Cusco. He made our trip beyond memorable!
geology, was our guide in the short Inca Trail, the salt mines, and other sites near Cusco.
We have no words to describe how helpful, knowledgeable and charming Renee was.

Anexa Peru and my guide, Rene Calancha provided an excellent tour. Señor Calancha was attentive to every detail for a short but fully-loaded trip to experience Cuzco, the Holy Valley (Valle Sagrada) and Machu Picchu. He arranged the best (not the most costly, but the best) hotels in every part of the trip and recommended the best restaurants. He provided an excellent and attentive driver and he separately arranged a driver and guide for my college-aged daughter who arrived separately and had to catch up with me. His advice and guiding skills were the best at Machu Picchu. He also provided excellent information on the historical (and current) culture of Peru, including insightful details into the architecture, engineering and agricultural skill of the Incas. If you want to be fully taken care of by a company/guide who knows their area, Anexa Peru should be your choice!

Good liaison with René who explained that Marilú would take us on the 1 day hike up to the Sun gate. We took time to find the orchids and look at the views.

We looked for orchids more often on the steep bits, which was noticed and appreciated!

Tension grew in the drizzle and cloud but MP was revealed in sunny splendour

Great trip. Highly recommended. Great guide

One tip. Don’t mention RUINS. They are not ruins! (but a site slightly neglected for 400y) Siteo archeologico

Machu Picchu was #1 on my wife's bucket list and had been so for 50 years since an elementary school teacher told of her travel there. So planning for this special trip was a big deal and we could not have chosen a better planning partner than Rene Calancha. He had been the long-time Peru contact for a Andean Treks, a US-based travel company that was closing down as its founder retired. They recommended Rene who was just launching Anexa. Rene was speedy in getting back to me and extremely generous with ideas and suggestions as we planned an itinerary. With his guidance, we decided to begin with a few days in Lima, then fly to Iquitos for a few days in the Amazon jungle, then a flight to Cuzco with an immediate departure for a few days in the Sacred Valley (both for its magnificent sites and to help us get used to the altitude), then two days visiting Machu Picchu itself (including one long, spectacular day of hiking that ended with the awesome entrance to Machu Picchu that my wife had been anticipating for half a century), and then a few days in Cuzco, the Inca capital. Rene went from helping us think through the itinerary to booking all the hotels, in-country travel, local tours and guides, restaurant recommendations, etc., and didn't miss a thing! We were so well cared for and could not have been happier. From meeting us at the airport on our arrival in Lima to seeing us off for our trip back home, Rene and his team were making sure our visit lived up to our expectations and hopes. And it did!!

With feedback from us, Rene arranged for tours, drivers and guides for us throughout Peru. In Lima, Cusco and Puno we were met at airports and train stations. Never once did we have to think about where do we go now or how do we get somewhere. The hotels were marvelous. We have never been so taken care of.

All the staff was incredible. They were professional, caring, knowledgeable. Peru is amazing. We learned so much and had many once in a lifetime experiences, including climbing Huaynu Picchu. Our guide Wilson could not have been more helpful or solicitous for that grueling hike.

Rene definitely goes above and beyond. He will do anything for his customers. I accidentally left my purse in the safe at the hotel in Agua Calientes. The hotel couldn't "find it" when I called. We had already moved on and were heading south. Rene found it, got a friend to put it on a train, and then had a guide drive to another town to pick it up, so I could get it back the next day.

Cannot recommend Rene and his company highly enough. They are the only way to see Peru!

My family of six traveled with Rene in 2018. We arrived and left at different times, and Rene coordinated the whole thing beatifully, even with delays and cancelled flights. The hotels were uniformly excellent. We loved seeing Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Nasca lines. Rene also introduced us to areas we were unaware of, including the ancient Andean salt flats of Mara and Pachamac.
When one of group became ill one day, Rene arranged for an early check in and to have someone meet her as she arrived in Agua Caliente train station, making sure she arrived at our hotel safely. The rest of us hiked the Inca Trail that day, arriving at the Sun Gate to see Machu Picchu for the first time.
The next day we saw Machu Picchu and hiked Huaynu Picchu. On our drive back to Cusco, we were discussing among ourselves that we'd never seen the Southern Cross. Rene had the driver stop along the road, far from city lights, so we could see the constellations of the southern sky. It was truly memorable.
Our trip was a once in a life time trip, and Rene and the team from Anexa made it great. Our family still talks about this trip wheneve we gather.
Thank you to Rene and the Anexa team

We have worked with this group twice for trips to Peru. They were recommended to us by another highly respected, now retired, travel group in Boston, Andean Treks, Inc. One trip was for a large group trip that I was organizing for a long tour throughout Peru and they did a fantastic job. More recently, we took a special family trip to celebrate my daughter’s graduation. It could not have been a better trip. Our guide, Jesus Carrion, was amazing and incredibly knowledgeable and we now consider him a friend. He took care of everything perfectly and we never had a concern while we were there. All of our accommodations were beautiful and perfect for the trip. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Cusco, which is a newer beautiful hotel on a hill with amazing views of the city and excellent service. We took the Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). The Vistadome train is fantastic, with snack and drink service and amazing views during the ride to Machu Picchu. We stayed at El Mapi in Machu Picchu pueblo and it is modern, very clean, and had a great restaurant as well. It was very conveniently located 5 minutes from the transport going to the ruins of Machu Picchu. We had a trip of a lifetime. I can highly recommend Andean Expeditions and Adventures (Anexa Peru Travel and Tour Operator.

My wife and I are back from a week’s trip in November 2018 to Cusco and Machu Picchu. Our trip was organized by Andean Expeditions and Adventures. It was the trip of lifetime and Andean Expeditions and Adventures made it possible. We highly recommend them.

Andean Expeditions and Adventures is run by Rene Calancha. Mr. Calancha for many years arranged the Peruvian trips for a Boston based group called Andean Travel. When its owner retired and closed the business, Mr. Calancha branched out on his own. We were referred to him by Andean Travel.

We had a five day trip -one day in Cusco, a day visiting the Sacred valley with a night at Aguas Calientes, a full day in Machu Picchu, another day in Cusco and a day in Lima. Andean Expeditions made all our travel arrangements except for air travel. He arranged hotels in Lima, Cusco and Aguas Calientes

In making the arrangements Mr. Calancha was very responsive to our e-mails and phone calls and very flexible in planning a customized trip for us.
We do not speak Spanish but it was never a problem. Once we arrived in Lima every detail was taken care of. We were met at every airport and given transport to and from our hotels back to the airports where the staff assured that we were ticketed properly and at the proper gates.

Mr. Calancha took care of every detail. To give one example, for our one night in Aguas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu he arranged so we could store our bags and not have to take them on the train to Aguas Calientes. He then loaned us duffle bags so we could pack just what we needed for our overnight trip. He was in constant touch with us to assure that everything went well.

All our hotels were very nice with clean comfortable rooms and cordial and helpful staff. In Cusco we were in the heart of the old city, an easy walk to the main plaza. In Aguas Calientes were just a few blocks from the train station. In Lima, we were in the fashionable Mira Flores area five minutes from the ocean and many wonderful restaurants.

Breakfast in the hotels and some lunches were arranged by Andean Expeditions. The choices were always excellent with the chance to try some Peruvian dishes. When we were on our own, we were always given suggestions of good places to dine.

In Cusco, we had a group tour with an excellent knowledgeable guide who took us on foot and by van to sites in Cusco and the surrounding area. Then for the next two days we had a private guide, Marilu (I don’t know her last name) and, when needed, a private driver. We were taken sightseeing in the Sacred Valley to visit Pisaq and Ollantaytambo and then took the Vistadome train ride to Aguas Caliente.

We cannot praise our guide, Marilu, enough. She was exceptionally experienced, have guided on the Inca Trail for 20 years and has deep knowledge about Inca culture and architecture as well as having extensive about the ecology of the area and modern day culture. Her English is excellent, like all of our guides.

Above all she was helpful and sensitive to our personal needs. We are both in our 70’s and my wife has difficulty hearing. Marilu knows about everything from dealing with the altitude, to getting us special rubber tips for my wife’s hiking poles, to tips on navigating the endless steps and trails. We ended up hiking up Wayna Pichu the high mountain behind Machu Pichu. It is about 1000 feet almost straight up and we never could have made it without Marilu’s guidance.
