We thought we were going on what was said to be a moderately strenuous hike. Some how we wound up seeing everything on that hike, but on horseback. English guide was no extra charge.

Hey Buddy, You must indicate to your guide first, if you have hired a porter , porters will deliver your staff at a lunch place "Hostel Viajeros" in Aguas Calientes where the group will rejoin after your visit to Machu Picchu. If you don´t hire a porter you must carry with you during the whole trek until return to Cusco. Cheers SAS Travel

We were told 8 Kg, and that's what they worked to. Eack pack was weighed prior to departure, but no one was questioned . I would definitely get a porter, unless you are very fit and strong (and a bit of a masochist !) I had a day pack (around 5 Kg) with water , camera spare clothing etc, and my main items totalled about 7 Kg , carried by the porter.

Not sure if you read my review as Tripadvisor told me it was in the "wrong place". Have you read the below? We took the 2 day/1night Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu on Dec. 3-4th. Our guide, Andy with SAS Travel was very attentive to our needs. He assisted me with my day pack when climbing the especially difficult stairs on the trail. Although we took the water suggested, we ran out about 2 hours before the end of the first day. He was generous enough to give us his extra water bottle. Our complaints/dissatisfaction: Day before trek: 1) We chose this trip because of the length of hiking. We also chose this company because they stated we would NOT be staying in a hostel but at one of TWO hotels in Aguas Calientes. The night before our trek, our guide stated that we would stay at a hostel. We had to prove to the SAS travel agent that we had received an email stating that we would stay in a hotel. Had we NOT read the email in its entirety we would NOT have known what was included. Read all the info they send you! 2) Because we booked our own departure date as a private tour, we paid the extra money which we expected. However, there is a note in our confirmation stating that SAS will attempt to get more people to join our trek to bring the costs down. It stated that if we did NOT get more people to join they would cover the cost of ONE night at the hotel they recommended, Hotel Marqueses. They failed to acknowledge that until we proved, once again, what was stated in our email. They did grant us one free night ($90 value). They also stated that if we stayed at their recommended hotel we would receive a 10% discount per night. After they gave us the free night we were promised, they refused to also give us the 10% discount. Day One-16 Km trek 1) We wanted to hear a lot of information about the culture and history of the Incas as we arrived at each site. We received the bare minimum and only noticed it after other groups would be sitting down listening to their guide speak in detail about the sites. Many of the other guides had props (binders with pictures, etc.) to demo and describe. Andy told us he’d tell us all about it when we arrived in Machu Picchu the following day. However, at every stop we quickly passed by other groups who were listening to their guide’s lectures. 2) Meals for dinner the first night or lunch the 2nd day did NOT include a drink, fyi. Day Two-Machu Picchu 1) Arrived Machu Picchu by 6:45 am. Once again, not a lot of info from our guide. He was basically through with his walk with us by 8
