Hi Bence, I was there in May 2017 and we came up from the rail line (the one day hike of the Trail). You go through a checkpoint at that location and they record passport information etc. I don't believe that they let you through unless you are being guided. This prevents people from wandering around aimlessly without at least some form of supervision. We then walked from Winaywayna to the Sun Gate. During that trek we did not encounter one person walking from the Sun Gate to Winawayna. I can't recall if it was actively prevented though. One way or another, it is a must visit. I Winaywayna is a wonderful secret and was a pleasant surprise for us. It is not inundated with tourists like Macchu Picchu is. As you note there are only a couple of ways to get there so only those who make the trek get to see it. When we visited it there were only 13 people wandering around the ruins and the views were breathtaking. 2 waterfalls nearby and no 'security' directing you in the 'proper' direction to be walking. It is as much a must see as MPicchu was. Kevin

I'm sorry, I didn't see this question. I hiked from KM104 last year. I was 68 years old with a bad back at the time. I have hiked most of my life, but my back has slowed me down a lot. I think your kids are old enough to do it as long as they know what to expect and get encouragement. It's not a tough climb, and you can go at your own pace with a guide. I have a 9 year old granddaughter and I think she could do it easily. The climb up the stairs to Winawayna is a little challenging, the stairs are quite tall in some places. I'm 5'4" and had a few challenges, but was fine.

Si por que esta dentro del Parque, hay que comprar con antelacion junto con la entrada ya que tenes sino recuerdo mal el turno de 7/8 y el de las 10hs. No se si despues del mediodia habia creo que otra a las 14hs.

Francesca, Buenas tardes, la ruta winaywayna esta considerado dentro del camino inca clasico de 2d/1n no hay forma de realizarlo por su cuenta necesariamente tiene que organizar una empresa de viajes las gestiones para los permisos y llevarle un guia ningun turista puede ir solo para evitar algún tipo de problema o se pueda perder si desea informacion puede escribir a la empresa willka travel que les brindaremos mayor informacion. Winay Wayna is an ancient Incan settlement located on the Inca trail itself. It is located very close to the campsite for trekkers at the end of day 3 so unless you have a permit to do the Inca Trail you will probably not be able to get to Winay Wayna.

You really not gaining anything by climbing from AC to MP, aside of saving 20$, there are much better views once you get there by bus. If you must to do so, depending on your physical condition, it will take you about 1-1.5 h to get to MP entrance from Aquas; once you get to the gate (still have to sign up for one of the groups and get tickets ahead of time) its about 3-4h circle to the top of WP and back
