We took a short walk and saw marine iguanas, lava lizards, sea lions, Sally Lightfoot crab, and other creatures.
Snorkeling in the area rewarded with swimming with green sea turtles, flightless cormorants, sea lions, blue star fish, marine iguanas, many beautiful fish of all sizes, and even small jellyfish.

This place is full of iguanas! But we saw many other things such as heron and sealions and a very very tame hawk! Lovely

What an incredible island. Lava fields, marine iguana, hawks, sally light footed crabs, and sea lions were everywhere. We just missed (3-4 days) an active lava flow event but so enjoyed our short visit to the youngest of all the islands. It's raw beauty and natural differences from the other islands added to our experience.

This site on Fernandina island, the newest among the Galapagos islands, is teeming with animals: penguins, sea lions, marine iguanas, and birds. We were even attacked by a flightless cormorant who mistakenly assumed that we were swimming towards its nest.
One of the highlights of our cruise.

We arrived onto the black lava shores of Punts Espinoza and walk along the beach. It’s where they filmed the snakes attacking the hatching iguanas on Blue Planet. There were thousands of large iguanas everywhere. They were also bigger than anywhere else I had seen in the Galápagos Islands. Fortunately we did not see the snakes but in will happen in a short while! Sea lions, many birds and hawks sightings too.

Upon reaching shore, we were immediately greeted by sea lions. As we hiked along the lava rocky beach, we saw marine iguanas, flightless cormorants and even Galapagos penguins

In our eight day cruise, this was among our most favorite stops. It provides a sense of remoteness. There are a massive number of iguanas in a scenic landscape. It felt like we were visitors on another planet. There are a lot of crabs and sea lions. We also saw a shark, assorted birds, and a complete whate skeleton. Not many visitors.

Ecoventura took us to Fernandina Island, the youngest and most pristine of the Galapagos Islands, on their yacht, "The Letty", where they took us on a guided tour at Punta Espineza. We landed surrounded by mangroves and made our way on the lava to an area carpeted with hundreds of Marine Iguanas. This is the largest Marine Iguana colony in the Galapagos Islands. Unfortunately, there were also several dried up corpses lying around due to the victims having eaten an algae poisonous to marine iguanas. There were great photography opportunities with the Marine Iguanas lying on top of each other or looking like they are cuddling one another or hugging or perched up on the rocks with sea lions and birds and crabs surrounding them and the surf crashing behind them. There were also a large number of flightless cormorants who looked rather pathetic with their shrivelled up wings. Parts of the shoreline were also littered with very brilliant and beautiful Sally Lightfoot Carbs. Like everywhere in the Galapagos you get to walk very close to all these creatures. We also went snorkelling but like elsewhere we went in the Galapagos the water was too murky for good photos but you should take your underwater camera anyway since you will still see some spectacular things, you just will not great super photos.

Hello! My son's greatest desire is to see the flightless cormorants in the Galapagos. I'm looking at cruises, and going either end of May or mid-June. Just want to ask if they were easily seen in this area during that time? I'd hate to plan a trip and not see them, though I know there is no guarantee.
Also, looking at the Legend ship...anyone been on it? Thanks!!!

Hi,
Did you visit Punta Espinoza with a cruise or did you manage to organise a day trip from Isabela? We have two weeks in the Galapagos (first week cruise, second week by ourselves) so doing a bit of research before we leave. :)

Hi Olivia,
We had a week's cruise aboard Isabela.
As well as the awesome walk and sights...we had a superb snorkel offshore...and then had the good luck to catch up with a lone hunting Orca.
But...for us...the place itself was THE best spot of the Galapagos!
Have a great time,
Chris
