These 'steps' are largely a natural rockfall, so provide interest as well as benefit, giving access to the footpath above

I loved the hike up Prince Phillip's Steps on Genovesa Island. Once you get to te top there are beautiful lava fields everywhere and Nazca Boobies nesting all over the surface. You truly feel that you are in a totally foreign envirinment as you walk across these fields. The views of the ocean are spectacular as you approach the northern shore and home to sea lions, iguanas and lava lizards. We even spotted a Galapagos hawk catching its prey! What a place.

I have never seen as many birds as I did here. Genovesa Island has the largest colony of red-footed booby in the world. We also admired swallow tale gull, marine iguanas, and the great frigatebird
We saw many red-footed and Nazca Boobies, other birds and owls.

This is officially a dry landing though the steps are very steep and often slippery from the sea spray so care is required.
But once you get to the top you are in a different world. We visited the afternoon and saw at least half a dozen short eared owl hunting on the cliff and many red footed and nazca boobies with chicks

This caldera is an extinct volcano. When you summit the steps in February watch for the chicks under foot! We witnessed Nazca boobies, red footed boobies and frigates in the midst of mating and hatching just a few feet from the path and as far as the eye can see. We also saw the short-eared owl from a distance. The Nazca put on mating shows, as well as a tense fight that included locked bills. We thought the 10 minute drama might result in both dying until another Nazca came over and scolded them. The bills unlocked within seconds! None of the wildlife was concerned about humans walking so close to them.

We visited Prince Philip steps with Silverseas expedition cruises. We arrived by zodiac to immediately climb the steps. It’s a steep climb with uneven rocks so a level of fitness is required. At the top our guide took us on a long walk. We were lucky to see 5 brown owls, red-footed boobies with their babies and many other amazing species. The views were incredible. It was very hot the day we walked so plenty sun screen and water. We saw fur seals on our departure.

Prince Philip's Steps is an very steep rocky path that leads through a seabird colony, up to cliffs that are 25 metres (82 feet) high. At the top, the trail proceeds inland, passing more seabird colonies in a thin palo santo forest. The trail also provides overviews of a rocky plain. Fantastic views and great birdlife all around
