Hi, we love Sanur and also prefer the South End of the beach where there are lots of restaurants on the beach. Sanur is quiet and perfect for over 50's. I would love to recommend the Boutique Hotel we stayed in last October and are staying in again this May, but since we've booked, we discovered that there will soon be building works right next door. The Hotel are very good and have said if we are disturbed, they'll refund our money. So we just have to wait and see. We adore this place and really hope by May the noise may be finished. It's called Kejora Suites.
We also love Candidasa which is up the East Coast we will spend part time in Sanur and part in Candidasa (pronounced, Chandidasa). Have a look at Alam Candi Dive Resort. Small, quiet right on the water. Gorgeous. We've stayed there several times. But if you just want to chill out, then 2 weeks in beautiful Sanur would be great.
Enjoy, I'd love to hear where you stayed and how your holiday went.
Best Wishes
Toni

How long is the promenade/walk along the beach?
VeganTravel

The promenade along Sanur is 5.38 kilometers long (approx 3.34 miles). I just measured it on google earth. I have ridden most of it on a bicycle. There are some places where you need to get off the bike to go through pedestrian gates, but it is ridable. Many people walk, stroll, and jog along here also, especially in the mornings. You can hire a bike for 50k IDR for an old clunker, or 100K IDR for a newer bike. Some hotels offer bikes for free. You may need to stop occasionally and walk the bike when there is any ceremony at a temple, wedding, procession, or cluster of people. I would not recommend riding the biclcle on the main road (it is very sketchy there indeed).

Absolutely there are
We go to Kayu Manis Restaurant on the walk way were you can sit for free provided you buy a drink or food
There are also the girls that do massages along beach walk that hire sun beds at reasonable price

Wondering what the beach is like in Sanur in July)August in terms of swimming. Is it polluted in the water at that time of year? I have visted twice before but at different times. Both occasions there was readily visible plastic pollution in the water and on the beach. I wonder if that's seasonal or all the year. I really liked Sanur village but want a swimming holiday in July.

Hi - I am starting to worry that my plan to visit Sanur in July will be a wrong choice because I am seeing pictures of the beach being dirty and stories of many stray dogs - I am quite frightened of dogs.
So far we have only booked flights to Bali - Its our first time - where should we head for? We are two adults and a teenager

As I explained in my review, the garbage on the beach is a seasonal problem. As the dry season starts (about April usually) the winds shift from Westerly to South-Easterly. This brings nice cool breezes up from the Australian Fall and Winter and makes Sanur one of the best sites in the world for kite surfing. On the downside, as the winds shift, all the garbage that was floating around in the ocean to south of Bali gets washed up on Sanur beaches. The good news, it soon gets cleared as the 5* Hotels deploy teams of workers to clear it daily. As of now, and I walked all along Sanur beach yesterday, the garbage has gone and will not return until the start of the dry season in 2020.
Stray dogs are all over Bali and Sanur in general does not have a problem.
Sanur is a quiet, peaceful beach village. If you are looking for a peaceful holiday, it is ideal. There are plenty of restaurants and bars but not much "nightlife" as such. Your teenager will prefer Kuta, which is only 20 minutes away by (inexpensive) local Uber equivalents Grab or Go-Jek.

We are trying to decide between a private villa or going into a hotel. Does it feel safe to wander round Sanur in the evening.?

There are certain commenters here who seem interested only in promoting Nusa Dua and putting Sanur down at every opportunity. I built a home in Sanur 30 years ago and have lived full-time in Sanur for 20 years. Many of the problems being attributed to Sanur are, IMHO, entirely fictitious.
With regard to personal safety, we own some Villas in Sanur also and we have has groups of young ladies stay there and walk home to the Villas in the early hours with no problems. Bali in general is safe but, for a number of reasons, Sanur in particular is extremely safe. There is petty crime in Bali but it is mainly in the Kuta area, where purse snatchers and pickpockets are an intermittent problem.
Our own personal experience of living in Sanur for so long is that we have never once had a security problem of any description.
And Sanur is a part of the real Bali still with a strong local community and culture. It's LIVING Bali. The Nusa Dua complex of 5* hotels is nice in a way but it is entirely artificial and built for tourism. EVERYTHING there was built recently so nothing is original in its manicured perfection. Prices down there also are far higher than elsewhere on the island and IMHO there is a far better selection of reasonably-priced restaurants in Sanur.

How is the sand and water at Sanur beach? Is it white sand beach and water color is blue or green? Or is it just a normal beach without any natural beauty?

Long walkable beach - mainly yellow/white sand with some pebbles. Water is green/blue and much cleaner than other "touristy" areas of Bali (ex, Kuta). I also enjoyed that you can walk out into the ocean/water for quite a ways due to shallow -- great for quickly getting a dip to cool off. There is quite a bit of seaweed/kelp in some areas. All-in-all, beautiful and inviting.
