I was at Seeds of Hope for 2 weeks. I took Spanish lessons in the morning and did voluntary work in the afternoon. In my opinion a perfect combination. You still have enough free time to explore Huaraz.
The teachers do a fantastic job. The lessons are adapted to your Spanish level and they cater to your needs. They also make a great effort to introduce you to the culture of Peru.
I also loved working with the children. They're so sweet. We had a lot of fun together while doing homework, playing cards or painting artwork. I felt very comfortable. It was only 2 weeks, but I was sad to say goodbye. I hope I can go back as soon as possible and spend a longer time there as a volunteer.
If you want to improve your Spanish skills, experience the local culture and community and support children - go for it! You will have an amazing time there!

What an incredible experience. Yuri is a brilliant teacher, he gave me so much confidence and practical knowledge in our week of classes.
I highly recommend Seeds of Hope for anyone wanting to improve their spanish. The lessons were very affordable and the teachers flexible to work with your schedule.

I stayed at Seeds of Hope for 3 weeks while taking Spanish classes and volunteering with the students. I found that this was a really nice productive combo which still allowed me lots of downtime! I LOVED my Spanish classes with Jenny. The conversations were very fun and natural and I truly felt I improved and learned so many new tenses. I also loved volunteering with the kids. They are super sweet and not judgemental of your language skills at all. I took home many artworks that we painted together! On the weekends I went on hikes to beautiful alpine lakes. If you are considering Seeds of Hope, just go for it! It is such a nice experience that connects you directly to the Huaraz community.

I stayed at Seeds of Hope and took Spanish lessons for one week and had an amazing time. Jenny, Ethel and Yuri were patient, organized and helpful teachers and I left feeling much more comfortable and confident with my Spanish.
Beyond the lessons, the entire Seeds community made my time in Huaraz extremely special and memorable. We often shared meals and explored the city and surrounding nature together. It had only been a week, but I was very sad to say goodbye to all of my new friends when I left. I hope to return one day as a student/volunteer, and would recommend this experience to anyone looking to discover Peru from a local perspective :)

I spent two weeks volunteering and taking Spanish classes with Ethel, and I absolutely loved it. I really got to improve my Spanish by practicing over 5 hours a day (2 hours of classes, 3 hours of tutoring, plus time exploring the town). The kids are incredibly sweet and joyful. It was a fun challenge to help them with their math homework. Yuri took us hiking over the weekend, and it was beautiful. It was really fun to hangout with the other volunteers/Spanish students in the evenings/weekends (playing pool, rock climbing, hiking, dancing, going to they gym, going out to eat).
This was really the best way to experience the local culture and community. I got to go to Ethel's school to see students perform dances for the teacher's day celebration and had the opportunity to attend a birthday party for the kids. I just wish that I would have been able to spend at least 3 or 4 weeks at the school. I started to really get in the routine of things and feel really comfortable the second week but wanted more time.

I stayed at Seeds of Hope for over a week taking Spanish lessons. They are a fantastic organisation helping disadvantaged local children and it was great to be able to support them whilst learning Spanish at the same time.
Both Ethel and Jenny are patient and helpful teachers and helped me to improve my Spanish during my time there.
I’d love to be able to return one day to volunteer.

I went to Seeds of Hope for six weeks and loved my time there! I took classes with Ethel each morning and volunteered in the afternoons. The classes were great and my Spanish definitely improved (especially my listening skills). Volunteering was also great, and I usually helped the students with math. It was wonderful getting to know the students and playing board games with them! Yuri was a wonderful host, and I cherished our time together (especially the hikes). I also enjoyed visiting Ethel's school for Mother's Day and trying traditional foods with her. Everyone was very welcoming, and I would go back in an instant!

I really enjoyed my time at Seeds of Hope. I spent two weeks doing Spanish lessons with Yuri, Ethel and Jenni who were all very helpful, friendly and accomodating. Yuri is a fantastic host and always there to help and give advice on Huaraz and the mountains. The Spanish classes were good and provided me with a good grasp of the language and I enjoyed the conversational approach to the classes.
I had a great time doing day hikes with Yuri and other guests.
Thanks so much!

I was at Seeds of Hope for volunteering and learning spanish for two weeks. My experience with the children was very enriching!!! The director Yuri and the teachers Ethel and Jenny were very welcoming and so nice. They gave a lot of their time to show us Huaraz so we became quickly at ease. I surely recommend Seeds of Hope.

I was at Seeds of Hope for 2-1/2 weeks for spanish lessons and I truly enjoyed my stay. Both Ethel and Jenny were very warm, friendly and great teachers. We got to visit a school, went to the mercado, and had many great nights with everyone there. These lessons helped me to be more confident about my conversing in Spanish. Although I did not volunteer, I had the chance to know the volunteers and had friendly chats, played games of cards with them...
Yuri, the director, took our group to a beautiful hike at lake Llaca and helped us with all needed informations. I encourage anyone to stay at Seeds of hope either to take spanish lessons or volunteer (or both) to help children and teenagers with their homeworks. This is a essential program to the community of Huaraz which allowed many youths to have access to university studies.
