Just love the bike and hiking trails throughout this preserve, you could spend all day riding the bike trails

Parked off of Rte 484 at the Pruitt Trailhead where there is a lot for cars and horse trailers as well as a small picnic area. Took my young chocolate Lab on a Sunday hike. Met 3 woman on horseback, one bicyclist and 4 people entering the trail as we were leaving. Beautiful wild space with nicely maintained trails. Peaceful and quiet. Will definitely be back.

Pretty place. Could definitely use signage, it was very hard to see from the road. Nice trails. No bathrooms—just a gross port alet. Maps are available which are nice. Probably isn’t the best for very young kids.

A great place to hike, bike or just walk in old natural Florida. Paths are well marked. Take a camera, you never know what you will come across.

I love hiking in Halpata Tastanaki Preserve from both the Pruitt Trailhead and the trailhead off of 200. We’ve seen many animals including a coyote, turkeys, snakes, armadillos and deer. Bring water and map.

We planned a short hike at Pruitt Trailhead, parked in the parking lot but were curious about the Halpata Tastanaki sign down the road. We decided to just go hiking for 30 minutes or so to check it out; had the map and thought we would hike from Marker 2 to marker 6 and return to car. But after an hour or more we came to Marker 3 and knew we were far away and LOST. We were not prepared: no cell phone, no flashlight, no compass, no pocket knife, no water!! We spent over 8 hours trying to find our way out and never saw another human. Darkness descended, there was flowing water covering some paths, black mud tried to suck our shoes off. We are age 75 and 84 and survived, getting out long after dark covered with black mud and cold water from losing balance on uneven swampy trails. There needs to be a warning sign at the entrance for people like us plus more trail markers. The Mile marker signs are confusing. We enjoyed seeing two flocks of deer, a huge armadillo, several Whooping Cranes, lots of birds and heard all the night sounds! If we had been forced to spend the night without dry clothes, flashlight, water, etc. we may have been in terrible trouble. This is a warning to others.

This place is definitely special. Came back with Trailmaster Buc to do some swamp hiking. Wasn't sure how wet it would be during rainy season and found it not too bad. At least till we went off trail. Hiked to the plane wreck through some serious swamp. Way harder to find in summer but a great challenge. Mother Nature is taking the wreck back. Bonus.. We ran into a young coyote. Beautiful animal. Never know what you'll find here. At the very least, you will always find serenity. Highly recommended!

Excellent place to get away from the rat race. Great hiking, lots of Wildlife, very interesting and well cared for. We'll marked trail intersections.

If you are from out of town, you should be prepared for this to be a bit hard to find. In addition, we went on a Wednesday at around 3.30 and it the gate was closed. I am sure it will be nice, but there does not seem to be too much information on it, about it, or how to really enjoy it. Also be aware that it seems to back up to private land and used often by horses.

I parked at the Cedar Grove Church / Cemetery which can be accessed via a dirt road from rt 200. From there I did a 7.2 mile trail run on the loop that can be easily seen by zooming in from google maps. The trail was more of an slightly overgrown sand road that was soft and level. There are multiple other intersecting roads so it is best to use a navigation device to ensure you are no making any wrong turns. There was good cell phone service through the area using Verizon. The scenery is very wild, untamed and beautiful. You get the feeling that you are completely alone and there is not another human for multiple miles. You also get the sensation that the forest is full of wildlife. Every time I stopped to check the navigation I heard something rummaging in the brush. I did spot a raccoon, hawk and a huge box turtle. Awesome place to get away and will definitely be back.
