First of all, I drove to Reversing Falls Park from Cutler, Maine where I had the great privilege to see the adorable Atlantic puffins in masse, (which was AWESOME) and I had cell service almost the entire way, to guide me to the park, near Pembroke, Maine which was really nice. It was very unexpected, being in such a remote area. After all, you’re almost a stones throw from Canada here. The park itself is beautiful, with a few benches to picnic at. I REALLY was impressed with the falls!!!! The tide goes around an island and undercuts the tide coming from the other direction, creating the small waterfalls. Really really unique!!!! I watched it for at least two hours just before sunset, as the tide was building and building and building. There is a trail along the bays edge that’s really nice. There’s an information board along the way that explains why it is a waterfalls, rather than rapids (what I realistically thought it to be). I didn’t see any wildlife myself, but I’m sure there is plenty to be found at the time I went. After watching the tide, I slept overnight in the lot in my car with no problems. I simply didn’t draw any attention to myself. No campfires or cooking. Leave no trace. It’s a really quiet, peaceful place. This would be a great place to see the northern lights if they’re active (I would say a kp of six or higher) on a clear night. The sky to the north is clear of trees nearby. The air is clean smelling as can be up here.
In conclusion, due to the raw, pristine beauty, uniqueness and remoteness of the area, I VERY highly recommend visiting here. If you visit here, you won’t regret it. It’s pretty rare these days to have a beautiful place like this virtually to yourself.

We loved this. It was so pretty, and very interesting. We hiked a pretty neat trail through the woods, which we enjoyed, as did the pup.

Hike, water edge play! Found an old graveyard with two old head stones and a modern one. A PYO blueberry farm nearby a wonderful few hours spent together with no electronics!! Enjoy

It was very interesting to see the river run in the opposite direction during High Tide. The park area is nice and has picnic tables for enjoying a couple hoursalong the river.

Enjoyable hike to see some impressive tides! We were there in June so it was buggy. Remember the repellant. Got see some seals playing in the waves. Followed the directions on the park website so we managed to find the place. A nice hike along the Maine coast.

We heard it was a good place for kids to find fossils, but our 12yo found none. But we did find the open field between the carpark and the shore filled with low blueberries!! Eventually the mosquitos drove us away from picking as the sun dropped. It is not 'falls', but 'rapids' that reverse. A nice visit, fun to clamber around the rocks.

This is a puzzling spot. It's very hard to find and thanks to our trust National Geographic Guide to Scenic Highways & Byways, we had excellent directions. When we first arrived, we weren't sure what we were looking at but after a few moments you can see how the water is swirling around. It's one of the nation's largest reversing falls, a tidal phenomenon. We went in Mid-October and the mosquitos were a biting so don't stand in place too long but venture along the little paths to see it from all angles. It has everything to do with the tidal change twice a day where the reversal of the current takes place.

This was a very lovely spot to watch the water whirling! I wished we had brought up a picnic lunch and it would have been great if there was a bathroom there. But other than that, it was a great place to come and visit and see!

Great spot to spend a few hours with my preschoolers and teenagers. We went as the tide was coming in and were able to see the rapids. The kids climbed on the rocks and we walked on one of the trails along the waters edge and found wild blueberries. We were one of three cars parked there so we had plenty of space to explore on our own. This is a definitely a spot we will go back to!
