Definitely going to remember this one

I was late for returning my rental car but I wanted to see the waterfall so I ran up 1100 feet 1.6 miles long in 30 minutes and almost had a heart attack haha. Had no traction on my shoes and I have no idea how I did it but I returned the car with a minute to spare 👍 definitely an experience

Mary Jane hike
ene. de 2021 • Familia
While staying in Vegas, we decided to go for a hike. While there we missed the turn for the trail leading up. We ended up bumping into another hiker who was nice enough to show us a short cut up. Very steep. But worth the view.

There is so much more to Vegas than gambling!
ago. de 2020
As a 65 yr old female, traveling alone to Nevada, I wanted to get away from crowds and potential Covid. The heat in town was unbearable, but it was in the low 80's on Mt. Charleston. I am used to walking at sea level in much cooler weather, so this rocky, uphill climb was certainly a challenge for me. But I persevered. It took several rest stops along the way and encouragement from fellow hikers, but I made it to the falls, lugging my heavy camera. There wasn't much water so the photography was not stellar, but proud of my achievement. I found the other hikers very engaging and sociable. Sunscreen, a shady hat, good shoes, a walking stick. water and a snack are good items to carry. It was well traveled and somewhat a visible path, but there are several shortcuts or side paths and a few people went astray. There are shady spots in rest and catch your breath.

Mary Jane is no plain Jane
jul. de 2020
it is rocky and uphill all the way. gets worse and steep in the middle and near the top. loose gravel and rocks made it dangerous to navigate and descend. labelling it "Easy" was misleading. must have hiking boots and pole. phyically demanding, not suitable for young kids 5 or under.

Falls & Cave
may. de 2020 • Amigos
This hike is definitely a calorie-burner. Check the weather before you go so you can layer accordingly. The hike starts off pretty easy. Once you get to the switchbacks, you start the major elevation gain. Make sure you have plenty of water. There are a coupe of waterfalls, and there is a cave further down. The views there are amazing.

Not worthwhile in October
oct. de 2019
On the first Sunday in October, this trail was crowded with people yet still difficult to follow because of washout in the gravel trail and everyone taking their own path due to a lack of clear trail markers. If you get off trail, like I did, even following other people, it can make the hike steeper and harder because of sliding in the gravel. The end result is the effort just doesn't seem worth it for a waterfall that is just a trickle in October. The best part of the hike was seeing the golden Aspen leaves glistening in the sun.

THE quintessential Mt Charleston hike for the entire family
oct. de 2019
We are right at the end of the hiking season for MJ Falls as it is not the best when the snows come and that is any time during mid-November until March. For us this hike is a family and visitors must do just for the views and the hearty pine forest smells and when completed a quick run over to the lodge for their alpine coffee or even better hot chocolate. Have Fun!!

Beware Wrong Paths
oct. de 2019
Popularity and trail difficulty should be carefully considered before doing this hike. The trail starts off very easy, but quickly gets very difficult. The trail itself is not well marked and washout zones look much like the trail. I likely wound up off the trail, which explained the difficult time I had. There was still a bit of water coming out of the rock, along with the occasional chunk of ice.

Overall, beware of wrong paths/switch-backs, and loose stone/gravel. Be sure to bring plenty of water and dress correctly for the weather.

Mountains in the desert

Only 45 minutes north of the las vegas strip. Mary Jane is a great hike for those looking for something different while in sin city. It's also a great way to get away from the heat.

Best time to go is beginning of June
jun. de 2019 • Amigos
The trail is about 1.5 miles one way. It is all uphill walking. The last half mile is the hardest. If you are not in good shape you may have a hard time making it up. If you’re afraid of heights, you may have a hard time making it all the way up. I had a hard time breathing for the last half mile. The trail is narrow and zig zags to the top. If there’s any snow melting from the top of the mountain then you’ll get to see the waterfall. Otherwise it’s going to be dry. The area is beautiful. Lots of rock formations and beautiful landscapes. The drive up to the mountain is about an hour.
