We drove here after seeing Pres. Coolidge's Homestead. It was quite a hike but like all of Vt., it was beautiful. We go here about 8 p.m. The road leading to this place definitely needs fixing. Also, the road at night seems a little ominous. Don't worry, there are some houses in the area, lived in. Naturally, it was closed, but we parked where we could and took some pictures. I am patriotic and a history major so it was an honor to be here but the pics on the internet that you see, are what you get. There is nothing else to see or do here. If it had been earlier, we would driven to the Canadian border just for fun. It is about 23-32 miles away...lol.

The GPS may not navigate you to the precise destination. Follow the signage along the road. The parking lot is small. It is located across the street from the historical site. Hiking trails exist. Bring bug spray. An interpretive sign makes you aware of the historical significance. It’s a fun and short stop.

Our 21st president was born in this little cabin, far from the power centers of government. His journey is a perfect example of a life of highest achievement growing from the humblest beginnings. Happy trails.

You have to be a devoted historical fanatic of the US presidents to visit this remote little home. It is the birthplace of Arthur--the Canadian birth is a sham. Helped me understand better Arthur's humble roots.

Was nice site, but not open until July, and only on the weekends. Enjoyed the beauty of the surrounding area though.

While traveling the back roads and byways in October 2018 we came upon the homestead of President Chester A. Arthur. There is a small dirt parking area across from the home. We were the only ones here. A historic marker noted the house was a replica of the original. There is also a museum; however, it is only open July-October on Saturdays and Sundays. We walked around, took a few photos and headed out. The views down the small back roads were gorgeous. Just wish we could have arrived on a day the museum was open.

Not knowing what to expect when we approached the little yellow house, a reproduction of the dwelling where Chester A Arthur was born, we were blown away by the knowledge of the learned volunteer who conducted the "tour". There are no furnishings in the house ,but museum-style placards complete with photos. While it would be nice if there was a film and a visitor center, what really matters is the passion of the docent for his or her subject.

President Arthur was a man ahead of his time. He was FDR before FDR. He was a man who believed in no tariffs, believed in keeping money out of politics and felt that honesty was important for a politician. This cabin is a simple beginning for a complex man. There is not much here except to see how being out in the country may have influenced this great man. When you travel to St Albans you get to visit the museum and see the railroads and city in his time. Book stores have material on President Arthur and are great for learning about this man of the people.
The site is open Saturday and Sunday at specific times.

Recently,I drove from Burlington,Vermont to the birthplace of Chester Alan Arthur in rural East Fairfield and it was closed on the July Thursday that I tried to visit it.It is a small yellow house.Considering the contributions that Chester Alan Arthur made to the United States before and during his presidency, this is a disgrace. On the positive side, the countryside near East Fairfield and Fairfield is magnificent.

We were in Fairfield for a dual purpose: half was to visit Chester A. Arthur's birthplace. It's 6 miles from center of Fairfield and cabin where he was born is not there, but a large monument is. The REPLICA of his father's house / parsonage is there and houses the history / plaques of the family. It's only open to public on Sat., Sun., and Monday holidays in warm months. The guide was anxious to impart good information. One nugget she offered was that the Baptist Church where Chester's father was the preacher is also open and about a mile away. What a sweet little brick Church on a hill, well-maintained, and we thought the best part of the Arthur's history tour. Be sure to ask where the Church is, and visit there.
