We make this journey every year from Florida in the dead of winter.
We love the park & the hiking trails are some of the best in America. The scenery is unbelievable. The trail are very well marked and worn. There are bridges that make your journey safe. We encounter ice and snow, but that why we visit when we do.
If you time the tides, you are able to descend the stairs to the rocky beach below. There you will find a treasure trove of items that have washed ashore. We have found buoys, silverware and my personal favorite a boiler plate cover from 1903-1904. It was from a ship wreak off the Lubec coast.
If you are the least bit adventurous, Quoddy State Park is for you.

The park itself is a bit disappointing as state parks go, but it does include the West Quoddy Light which is of interest to lighthouse aficionados.
This picturesque light noted primarily for its unique red and white stripped tower. Easy to reach with a short drive from either Cutler or Lubec. Is part of a state park which also offers a trail to a beach. Small museum inside the house. Access to the light is only provided by the Coast Guard on Saturdays during summer months. On clear days, it can be seen across the water from Campobello’s Liberty Point.

First of all as you enter the road leading out to the Quoddy lighthouse the view of the candy cane structure is magnificent. Off to the right is the parking lot for the trails. There are picnic tables by the lot. We hiked Bog, Thompson, then looped out back towards the Coastal Trail with its amazing views of Carrying Place Cove, and the Bay. Total with all the trails was about 4miles. Pack water and snacks bc there are benches to relax and taking in the breathtaking views on the Coastal Trail.

Some cliffs views are not for timid. You can walk right up to some spectacular cliffs high up over the ocean crashing on the rocks below. Wear good hiking shoes, some parts can be very rugged and muddy. Expect climbing and descending. There are great hiking trails along the coast and across a bog. We arrived when it was cool in a thick fog and left with the warm sun shining, so dress for everything! And don't miss the West Quoddy Head Light House.

Great view! I don't recommend going on a chilly day as there's not much to do if you don't want to be outside but the view is still spectacular.

Wanted to check out Lubec and the surrounding area. Came across Quoddy Head State Park and Lighthouse. There are hiking trails that start in the woods and quickly come up to the cliffs. There are paths along the trail that you can take if you want to overlook the ocean. The last part of the path leads you to the lighthouse. Hike in total is probably between a half mile and 3/4 of a mile. Hiking trails are in great condition.
If you don't feel like doing a small hike, you can park into the parking lot and walk a short distance down the dirt road that leads to the lighthouse.
Absolutely beautiful lighthouse. Gorgeous views!

The trail along the cliffs on the shore was breathtaking in the evening -- such a treat to return to the lighthouse lit up. So peaceful.

Highly recommend the hikes in this park along the shoreline; high cliffs, great views offshore, beautiful forest, well-maintained.

This park is located at the easternmost point in the U.S. That distinction surely draws tourists. But even on a pleasant summer day, there were no crowds, and everyone seemed fully respectful of this special place. It is maintained to perfection and offers several lovely nature walks in what might be called "pure Maine." Aside from the rocky coast, we recommend the trail that includes a boardwalk through the (apparently rare) Arctic upland peat bog.

One of the highlights of our trip to downeast Maine. The coastal trail is beautiful. The hike is not that hard. And the best views are in first half of it.

No camping? If not what time does the park close. Interested in stargazing in the evenings.

There is a small campground close by in Lubec called Sunset Point Campground. The views are beautiful from the campground. The park closes at sunset, however I have seen star photos at the lighthouse. Check with the lighthouse (closes at 4:00) volunteer staff for more information.

The Eastland Motel is along the main road before you get into the "business" part of Lubec where the stores and restaurants are located. There are a handful of B&Bs, and an inn (Cohill's). There is also the rehabbed coast guard station, which is just down the road from the park. You can find info under specialty lodging for Lubec - West Quoddy Head Station.
I like to stay here because the rooms are large and they have full kitchens in most of the rooms, but you do have to drive (it's about 5 minutes) to get to town. The views are fantastic. There is nothing fancy in Lubec, no chain hotels, no 5 star resorts. Look at the lodging available on Trip Advisor, most ratings have been pretty reliable.
