Just took delivery of our 2024 Starcraft and Yamaha 115hp. Colin took us out for a test and to go over all the workings. Overall a great experience dealing with the fine folks at Fenelon Falls Marina. This was our 5th purchase from them, and we always have them service, winterize and store our boats. Great service and wonderful people to deal with. Highly recommend them.

Disaster!! Brought the boat in for outboard motor controls replacement. Promise was 1 week. Control parts had to be re-ordered 3 times-- wrong parts ordered. Then could not start motor claiming they have no experience with large hp Mercury outboards. What to do? Had to take boat after 4 weeks down time and would not start and paying $1500. !! Now have to find a reputable dealer to fix the mess and pay an additional $500. - $1000. People were nice but this job was just out of their league. Lost the boat use for most of the summer. If you need service for a large HP Mercury outboard stay away do your research to find a reputable dealer

Dropped my inboard/outboard motor off beginning of July and it was returned to us (I picked it up) middle of September. Every time I called, they were waiting on a part from Yamaha. Really, how long does that take? Couldn’t use our fishing boat all summer.

What a horrifying experience Spoilt our entire vacation
We rented a pontoon boat from Fenelon Falls Marina, Ontario, Canada on July 2,2019 for a duration of 4 hours during a family vacation and returned the boat in perfect working condition same as we had rented in the afternoon. However, the Marina Manager claimed that we had damaged the boat and charged us $ 482.11 for repair in addition to the rental fee, whereas we had done nothing to damage the boat. There was no joint “pre-inspection” of the boat with my signature on a form that said that the boat was received in perfect condition and there is no way we could have inspected the under-water potion of the boat as the boat was already on water when we boarded the boat. It is my claim that the damage was pre-existing, and he is not an honest business owner. There is evidence on the internet that he has done this to other customers before. He also gave us an unsafe boat which stopped working in the middle of the lake and we were stranded on the water for 45 minutes.
Bait and Switch: When we initially rented the boat, the lady at the counter (Ann) told us to go down the ramp to the docks and we would be getting on to a “black” pontoon boat. We saw the black pontoon boat and it looked shining new. However, we were surprised when his lackey (Billy) brought another “red” boat from the storage area on a trailer, lowered it in the water and told us to get on it. This boat looked old and beaten up. He did not tell us that you are receiving the boat in perfectly new condition or offer a “joint inspection”. We were in a holiday mood and decided not to make a bid deal out of it. It is also our claim that if the damage was not pre-existing then, Billy damaged the boat while lowering it in the water from the boat trailer.
Unsafe boat: The boat later turned out to be unsafe and stopped working in the middle of the lake and we were stranded on the water for 45 minutes until his lackey Billy came and rescued us.
Threats and Rude Behavior: The Manager behaved very rudely with my family members and at one time threatened to charge us $1000 for the damage if we continued to argue with him. He obviously is not an honest business owner as he claimed to be and does not understand the meaning of “Customer Service”.
Targeting Foreigners: Initially we were told that we required a Canadian Boating License to rent a boat, which we said that we did not have. During the conversation they found out that we were Americans, then they readily agreed to rent us the boat without the boating license after some “back of the room” discussions (“plotting”) with the manager. We found at least one other review online in which had done the exact same thing to another customer from United Kingdom. There may be others who were too horrified to post a review. So obviously there is a precedent and a pattern of unscrupulous behavior.
No Insurance: I asked if the damages were covered by Insurance, Mr. Manager claimed that there was no Insurance and the renter was responsible for all damages. If you are a boat rental company (just like car rental companies) would you not insure your boat against accidental damage. Are you not expecting inexperienced tourists who have no previous boating experience to rent your boat? Especially foreigners without a Canadian boating license?
Cleanliness Claim: Mr. Manager claimed that we had left his boat dirty pointing to a few cracker crumbs that were on the floor of the boat. Did he expect us to wash down the boat before returning to him? No such instructions were given to us while renting the boat. We were on holiday and Billy saw us taking with us an ice-box full of food and drinks on the boat, even then he did not tell us to return the boat spotless. In fact, when we first got on to the boat there were dead mosquitoes and other bugs on the floor and the seats of the boat which we wiped with a cloth.
So, in conclusion, let us help Mr. Manager keep his boats clean and undamaged by not renting from him. This way he will have no complaints and claims against anybody and he can enjoy his clean boats by himself.
He spoilt our entire vacation, and in fact it is I who should be charging him for the price of 8 airline tickets, hotel and auto rental fees.
