My husband and I stayed at the Oyster Bay Hideaway for only two nights. Dennis, the owner and also the designer and finisher of the home, does a wonderful job as host. The home he has created is not to be compared to any other place we've stayed. He is a craftsman through and through as can be attested by how beautiful his home is. His home and guest quarters are beautifully tiled, with wood insets; and the same wood shows up throughout the decor on railings, half walls and kitchen and bath cabinets. We had an entire suite of rooms to ourselves with full kitchen, complete with bottle of wine and two wine glasses set out for us on the kitchen table, full bedroom with king bed (and chocolates!), full bath, our own deck with grill looking out over the Strait of Georgia, and another balcony overlooking the indoor swimming pool and the strait beyond. The suite was situated in such a way as to ensure complete privacy as it was built on the next level up from the swimming pool and over the garage. We had access to the large indoor pool which was bigger than many hotel pools as well as access to the jacuzzi and sauna. We made a point of using the pool at least once during our stay and we had it entirely to ourselves. Everything in this place lends itself to the gorgeous view to the northeast...across the strait and to the snow capped peaks beyond British Columbia's Sunshine Coast. If we wanted it we had use of the outside deck (also built and designed by Dennis) overlooking the beach and again this same view. Dennis is not only a craftsman but an excellent cook as well. Upon our arrival he offered us beverages and a very tasty salmon dip as well as a sample of the sushi he was making. He even went out of his way to supply us with food that my husband (who is gluten intolerant) could eat even though he had never had to deal with that kind of food intolerance before. Breakfast were very filling and included a lot of fresh fruit, pancakes (gluten free!), bacon or sausage, and made to order eggs. Our second and last night there, Dennis made a point of inviting us out to the deck to watch lit up cruise ships as they sailed past under a clear star-filled night sky. He offered us refreshments, introduced us to his visiting friend and provide pleasant conversation. When we checked into a typical 3 star hotel the following night on our way back home it seemed tacky and cheap in comparison with what we had experienced at Oyster Bay Hideaway Bed and Breakfast. This bed and breakfast is worth every penny that one pays for it. Dennis makes one feel at home in his beautiful surroundings.
