We booked a tour of 2 nights and 3 days with Ayatur! The communication at first was really smooth with the owner. We first booked with booking but then agreed to book directly with the owner so that he won't have to pay any fees. The price agreed was in euros and multiple times before we arrive there, we confirmed with him the total amount and told him that we'd pay him either in euros or credit card. He told us that both were fine. So we saved the euros for him, thinking that we'd do him a favour (also cancelling our booking with booking, and on another guide/hotel which had a better deal ). Anyways, once arrived there he told us he wanted to get paid in the local currency (first time he told us that). We went to exchange the money but the rate was really poor (not our fault as we agreed to pay in € and he was fine at first). Due to the poor exchange, 30 soles were missing at the end ( 8$ or 9$). We only had this money in cash (as agreed) and we didn't know about the poor exchange rate. Once we paid him, he told us it was okay. But then, the next day, he didn't come with us to the tour we had (it was fine for us but looking back now, we are not sure if it was because of this). We went for some drinks one night with him and another familiar and when we had to pay, he told us to pay for everyone and went to the bathroom. We only paid for our part because we felt that it was a bit too much since we were paying for our stay, and if you want to invite someone for a drink, you don't behave this way. Furthermore, we run out of cash because of the very poor exchange rate and we had only the credit card and a few soles.. The last day, on our way back, he left us alone in the taxi on our way to the airport, and told us to pay for it because we owed him "30 soles" ( how do we "owe" him this if we took the amount agreed since the beginning in euros, thinking we were doing him a favour, and he never told us he wanted to get paid in the local currency and that the exchange rate was poor in Iquitos). Of course, we told him that the transfer was included. He ended up paying the taxi but he left halfway and we continued on our own to the airport with the mototaxi driver. In a city which is not known to be safe, we were very disappointed with his behaviour. He only thinks about money, and not the wellbeing of the hosts. He left us with a bittersweet taste of the whole experience.
The good thing about this experience was Angel, the tour guide (and the owner's familiar). He was a true angel, as his name. He was really caring, kind and we really enjoyed our time with him. He kindly showed us amazing places, took us to his house, explained us so many things about the Amazonas, its fauna and animals. He treated us like family and all the good memories we have are thanks to him. Without him our stay would not have been the same. We really hope that the owner would change his behaviour with the guests and really treat them like "his own family" as he said before we arrive to Iquitos.
