We stayed in this lodge for 4 days/3 nights. And I need to say that almost everything was perfect.Especially tours to the jungle and Amazon river. Our guide Antonio was real jungle expert, very friendly and nature lover.
He showed us a lot of wild animals, birds, fish, frogs, tarantulas ,spiders, different kinds of jungle trees, giant water lilies.
Bungalows were pretty good too.We had electricity, wifi all the time. There wasn’t AC but fan helped us very much.
They even gave us T-shirts with lodge logo as a gift.

Gracias Antonio
Adios

The Curassow team is extremely friendly and hospitable. Martin the owner was easy to work with and the team took into consideration all that we wanted to see and do during our trip. Our guide, Flavio, knew the surrounding areas really well as he grew up and lives relatively close to the area. Communicating with him was a breeze as his English was fantastic. We had opted for the 2 days and 1 night package as we didn’t have a long stay in Peru but wish we could have stayed for longer as our itinerary was packed. We fished piranhas, went on adventures into the jungle and so much more. The food was extremely fresh and delicious and we were able to try some unique flavors. Definitely get a pisco sour and a maracuya sour at the bar in the evening as the drinks were incredible! Highly recommend this experience!

If this is your first time going to the Amazon jungle like me, I think you want to go to a place like this.
We highly recommend their private tour. It was a fantastic place, tour and people!
We are so pleased, happy and thankful for our time there! It was above and beyond of our expectations!

In our 2 Nights and 3 Days tour…
-we got to see so many things! (list of things that we saw is at the bottom of review)
-they take care of you so well (pace or food or whatever)
-All the staff/team members were outstanding!!!
-All of the transportation (cars & boats) was well coordinated and we felt safe! Great car and boat drivers!
-Walking tour in the jungle was thrilling yet felt safe!
-Our guide gladly, kindly, patiently, proudly, politely answered all of our (my) questions!
-Foods and drinks were fresh & delicious! (Yes, all were made with filtered water)
-very cute lodge
-you can even meet the host cat, Ben (if you like dogs better, you might like Ben. Plus there are so many dogs in the nearby community!)

We appreciate:
Ricardo, our private tour guide who was calm, patient, nice, polite, caring, knowledgeable, great communicator and always on top of our schedule for our tour!!! I probably don’t even need to say this… but his English was so good! Even though he has been a tour guide for a quite a while, he daily read and learned about nature as tour guide, and his efforts really show.

Tony, our boat driver was a steady great driver, and someone we can trust to take us into the night of the jungle, too! We could definitely feel that Tony enjoyed taking us around. When the four of us were out and exploring, we really had a good time together!

Ricky, the chef who cooked us amazing meals each time! Each complemented the others (salad, sauce and starch). What a great flavored main dish. We ate fish and chicken. They were all so wonderful. He is the master chef!

Julio, he works hard together with Ricky, and his one of his specialties is drinks! He welcomed us back with cold delicious refreshing drinks when we walked in after the hot tour day. It was like a dream! Especially, the lemonade hit the spot on that very hot day! We felt very spoiled with freshly made juice and freshly cut fruits in each meal.

Thanks to Ricky & Julio, our hearts were filled with delicious memories of amazing Peruvian homemade food! (My husband and I were the only guest at the site during our time there, but they didn’t hold back anything or cut any corners!)

And the rest of the staff, Gilbert and Martin- we were so thankful for your hard work and commitment to do well to take care of your guests like us. The quality of staff, safe journey and food was such a wonderful surprise that came with it! We love how all of you work so great as a team, getting along with other lodges and the local community get wonderful support through you!

We hope each one of you are safe and continue with your great purpose to show the guest what you love about the Amazon.
Muchas Gracias!!!

From here is boring but hopefully helpful things for you to know if you are heading the jungle:
I should’ve brought:
-my own flashlight (each person) or head light
-my own binoculars (sharing one was mostly fine, but I think it will be nice to have my own. So, I’m ready)
-more breathable sun protection long sleeve shirt (I forgot at home...)
-nicer camera (don’t beat yourself)
-extra sweat towel

Glad we took with us: Non-sticky kind of Sunscreens & mosquito repellent spray, hat (360 degrees brim), sunglasses, plenty of cash (You probably know this, but in Peru, they appreciate cash. Especially tips).
Even though it didn’t rain at all while we were there, it was nice to have poncho and waterproof jacket just in case.
The boat you use on tours is not covered so you can see what’s above you.

We got to see:
Birds: Black-collared Hawk, Neotropic Cormorant, Anhinga bird, Amazon Kingfisher, Jacamar Castano, Parrots, Macaws, Roadside Hawk, Crested Oropendola,

-Monkeys: Pocket Monkeys, Squirrel Monkeys, Owl/Night Monkeys
-Fish: piranha, etc
-Insects: Tarantula, Leaf cutter ants, Termites, Wasp ants, etc.
-Other animals: Sloths 🦥, Capybaras, Caiman 🐊, blue butterfly, Pink dolphins, Smokey Jungle frog, Tree frogs,
-Plants: Cecropia tree, Giant Lily pads and many more…

**Friendly reminder:
It is completely normal to be hot there. And you want to be smart to listen for your guide. Don’t want to do something stupid. They might be too nice and too polite to say it again. You want to return from jungle in one piece and alive! Lol

We visited from 5-7 November. The temperature was around 30 Celsius (comfortable in the morning and evening, and in the shade). The evening after they dropped us off at the airport, it really started to pour rain.
Ricardo told us that the rain season starts from November and it’s low season for tourists.

The entire crew and lodge staff were so friendly, accommodating, professional. We had Richardo as our guide and Jeremies as our driver and helper and felt we had the best guide ever. They were knowledgeable, flexible with our schedule and most of all friendly and happy to show us around.
Also the food and Julio our lodge/room taker was very nice.
Rooms and lodge was clean and kept up.
When comparing with the other lodges nearby, this one is a little bit smaller which is great as there are no large groups to accommodate and therefore catered to our wishes.
Definately will recommend to book them and will be back again with the rest of the family.

We had an amazing stay at Curassow Lodge! The staff really go above and beyond to make your stay there an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the moment we touched down at Iquitos airport, to when we arrived back there at the end of our stay, everything was taken care of. We stayed for 4 days/3 nights, and had a dedicated guide and driver from start to end.

Our guide Alex was fantastic and so knowledgable, he really knew his stuff. He and our driver Jeremy’s ability to spot wildlife was incredible! He tailored our itinerary specifically to fit our interests and needs, and looked after us so well throughout our stay. He is also the nicest guy and we really enjoyed getting to know him during our time there :)

The guides really take you into the heart of the jungle and allow you to see the wildlife in its natural habitat. We always felt very safe with Alex and Jeremy, they are very familiar with the jungle and knew all the best spots to try for sightings. In our time there we saw Sloths, Capybaras, Caimans, many types of monkeys, exotic birds and plants, dolphins, butterflies and more! It sounds like every tour is different depending on what wildlife is spotted, so we really felt like we had an authentic and unique experience. And you are in the best hands with these guys, they will find wildlife but it’s always a surprise as to what it will be!

The chef at the lodge freshly prepared our food for every meal, each was served with fresh fruit juices and the portions were big. The meals also included some delicious local cuisine, which we loved. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with plenty of netting to keep us protected from mosquitos and fans to keep us cool.

I would highly recommend a stay at Curassow Lodge, you will not be disappointed!

Hola Doug P. Thank you very much for your message. Actually, you do not need any special equipment. We provide private rooms (bungalows) with bathroom (it has a shower), bed, linen, pilows, towels and ammenities (soap and shampoo). We provide rubber boots for excursions. Also, if you wish, you can also bring your belongings to be more confortable as: pillows, etc. Do not forget packing your mosquito repellent (containing around 20-30% DEET), sun block, sun glasses with UV protection, and long-sleeves T-shirt. We hope we may organize your expedition in the Amazon Rainforest from Iquitos, Peru. Sincerely, EDWIN Curassow Amazon Lodge Iquitos, Amazon River, Perú
